• Laboratory setup "Linked pendulums"

The setup contains two pendulums, the suspension points of which are fixed on one rigid frame. Each pendulum is a metal rod with a load that can move along the rod and be fixed in the desired position, which allows changing the reduced length and, accordingly, the natural frequency of each pendulum. The pendulums can move independently or can be connected by an elastic element of low rigidity. Contactless pendulum position sensors are installed at the suspension points, and in the lower part there are electromagnetic clamps for setting the initial position. The control unit contains a microcontroller and other electronic modules that allow data to be transmitted from the sensors to the computer and control the electromagnetic clamps.

The setup can be used to study the following mechanical effects:

  1. dependence of the natural frequency of the pendulum on its reduced length;
  2. normal oscillations in the presence of an elastic connection and the relationship of the frequencies of these oscillations with natural frequencies;
  3. energy transfer from one pendulum to another, beat mode, the relationship of the beat frequency with mechanical parameters.

The unit is supplied with a programmed controller, a description of the protocol for interaction between an external computer and the controller, and a demonstration program that allows visualization of sensor readings and control of the clamps.
